UB Psychiatry Resident Receives Prestigious NIMH Outstanding Resident Award

Sep 15, 2025 | News & Events

We are proud to announce that Dr. Gary Iacobucci, a third-year general psychiatry resident in the Department of Psychiatry at the University at Buffalo and a postdoctoral researcher in biochemistry, has been selected to receive the 2025 National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Outstanding Resident Award.

This national award recognizes psychiatry residents who demonstrate exceptional academic promise and research potential. Established in 1988, the program honors a select group of residents each year, typically about a dozen nationally, who are identified as the next generation of leaders in psychiatric research.

Dr. Iacobucci’s current research focuses on whether cognitive flexibility is predictive of early medication treatment outcomes for patients with anxiety and depression. His work reflects a growing emphasis in our department on advancing discovery and translating scientific insights into improved patient care.

As part of the award, Dr. Iacobucci will be invited to the National Institutes of Health campus for a two-day program, where he will meet with NIMH leadership, investigators, and clinical fellows. This unique opportunity provides early-career researchers with exposure to the breadth of NIMH resources and ongoing studies.

We congratulate Dr. Iacobucci on this well-deserved recognition and look forward to following his continued contributions to the field of psychiatry and psychiatric research.
