What Can I Expect During the Intake Process?

If you are interested in becoming a patient at our practice, please call our office at (716) 835-1246 ext:119 to complete a brief intake with our intake coordinator. During this call, we will:

  • Confirm whether your insurance is accepted, and
  • Discuss the type of treatment you are seeking to help us match you with the most appropriate provider.

A referral from your primary care provider (PCP) or therapist is required before scheduling an appointment. The referral form can be faxed to our office at (716) 835-0396.

For patients under 18, a copy of the most recent progress note from their pediatrician and therapist (if applicable) is required along with the referral.

Need to Cancel an Appointment?

If a patient needs to cancel their appointment, we ask that you provide at least 24 hours notice. Cancellations within less than 24 hours notice will incur a cancelation fee. Please call the Center for Advanced Psychiatry to cancel your appointment (716) 835-1246.

Do You Offer Virtual Appointments?

Yes! UBMD Psychiatry offers virtual appointments for certain services when appropriate. Virtual visits are conducted using a secure, HIPAA‑compliant video platform and allow you to connect with your provider from the comfort of your home. Availability of virtual appointments may vary depending on the provider, type of service, and your clinical needs.

What Can I Expect During a Virtual Appointment?

A virtual appointment is similar to an in‑person visit. Prior to your appointment, you will receive instructions on how to access the secure video platform. During the visit, you will meet one‑on‑one with your provider to discuss your concerns, symptoms, and treatment plan. Please make sure you are in a private, quiet location with a reliable internet connection. If technical issues arise, our team will assist you as needed.

What Insurance Plans Do You Accept?

We are currently accepting the following commercial insurances: Independent Health, Highmark/BCBS, Univera, Atena, and some managed Medicare plans.

If you are not sure if your insurance plan is covered, give us a call at (716) 835-1246.

** We have select providers who participate with NYS Medicaid programs.

What is a High-Deductible Plan?

A high-deductible health plan (HDHP) is a type of health insurance plan that offers lower premiums in exchange for higher out-of-pocket costs. This type of plans requires you to pay a higher deductible before you insurance begins covering most healthcare costs.

What is a Hospital-Based Provider?

A hospital‑based provider primarily delivers care within a hospital or inpatient setting. These providers typically see patients who are admitted to the hospital or referred internally and do not maintain an ongoing outpatient patient panel. As a result, they generally are not available for scheduling routine outpatient appointments.  For detailed information, contact the hospital directly.

What is a Physician Accepting New Patients?

A physician accepting new patients is a provider who is available to establish ongoing patient care at one of our UBMD Psychiatry offices. Patients may request an appointment directly, and once established, the physician manages care over time through scheduled visits and follow‑up.
