Professional Summary
Wearing many hats, my work involves administrative, clinical, academic, and research responsibilities. Administratively, I oversee our department’s forensic and psychology divisions. Clinically, I (or my team) conduct psychological evaluations that address clinical and forensic questions (e.g. emotional problems, cognitive issues, risk, competency, criminal responsibility, etc). I also have a small practice that focus on athletes, to help them overcome psychological and emotional problems and optimize performance. Academically, I teach and supervise students at all levels, with the ultimate goal of facilitating scholarly thinking and work. All students are encouraged to get involved in one of our research programs, which broadly focus on better understanding the factors that impact human emotions with the goal of improving treatment outcomes. Using standard psychiatric assessment of symptoms, motivation, and outcome, we have for several years been examining the impact of treatment on rehospitalization and recidivism in an adult forensic setting. We have recently expanded on this research to a juvenile setting, as well as other psychiatric settings, to further study and understand the efficacy and satisfaction of psychiatric treatment.
