Professional Summary

I am a general psychiatrist working at the intersection of crisis stabilization, diagnostic transmutability, and solution-focused pragmatism. In this role I lead a team on an inpatient psychiatric service at the Erie County Medical Center, a safety net hospital with over 130 psychiatric beds that serves as the primary site for the treatment of acute behavioral health needs in Western NY. After completing residency training in Maine I worked for several years as an emergency psychiatrist before assuming my present role where I supervise, teach, and mentor Jacobs School of Medicine students and residents. I emphasize the need to “find” the patient within the symptoms and to balance the needs of quality care with timeliness of treatment, while coordinating with community providers. Outside of my direct clinical work I advocate for physician and medical provider wellness, and serve in leadership and committee roles to this end, recognizing that physicians must seek wellness in themselves to seek it for others.

Personal Statement

Outside the hospital I enjoy playing squash, exploring new (and old) restaurants, making memories, and staying connected to family and friends. I like history and science-fiction and take in the local live-music scene, especially in the summer. Find me on the slopes in the winter. I take joy in and am grateful for my different roles as father, partner, son, and colleague.
